Let us through!
Open up King’s Cross Station is the community-led campaign to keep east/west access to our local station. The King’s Cross community is deeply saddened that redevelopment starting in 2008 will result in a closed Station. All current entrances will be removed and replaced by one new concourse opposite the main entrance to St Pancras International in Pancras Road. To compensate us for our loss of access we are asking Network Rail to do all In its power to provide us with a footbridge from the current Wharfdale Road/York Way entrance to the west wide Of the Station. This will replace an original road bridge taking exactly this route, demolished in the 1950s. Bridge designers out there – what an opportunity to create what will be a much loved bridge. This is your chance to create the most beautiful footbridge in London.
On a first look at the reports I am puzzled. Are they saying they WILL build the northerly footbridge (the one which has no connection to the station) but NOT anything connecting into the station? This northerly footbridge is shown on some plans but is referred to as "...may be built..".
Of the schemes they do evaluate (and dismiss), two are bridges over all the mainline tracks. But why do you suppose neither of these continues through into Argentland?
It is unlikely to be stupidity. But perhaps they are fiendishly clever and are trying to ensure that there are two separate schemes, neither of which is good enough to get overwhelming support so neither goes ahead.
