Tony's Hemp Corner is no more and stripping out at No10 Caledonian Road a while ago revealed this lovely old signage in a 1950s, possibly earlier typeface which I snapped in the lovely light today. I think this is in a conservation area so hopefully the style will be retained. Do any readers or friends remember this as a cleaners or know when it last traded like this?
This has in from Pamela Mansi and Catherine Packard:

BLOOMSBURY VOICES are taking their spring show: Defining lines to the lovely and quite astonishing LUMEN an architecturally award-winning arts space in Bloomsbury this Friday 8th April (show starts at 7.30pm, doors 7pm).

Then.......if that wasn't enough. Future Perfect will be taking their latest killer show: ANIMALIS *(2) to LUMEN on the following evening, Saturday the 9th April. In a one hour and 10 minute spoken word sock between the eyes - you will hear tales of naughty kittens,...Customer-Service-Crocodiles,....slaveringly erotic menus,....and stories with bite! (More info at: www.futureperfectwriters.com)
I was just wondering if anybody had noticed the rather fine graffiti by the steps up to the Maiden Lane Bridge at the end of Camley Street. I don't think its a Banksy, but does anybody know anything more about this.
More great spring watch pics from Janys Lomax and Camley Street Natural Park in Kings Cross. A coot and a terrapin (good discussion on feral uk terrapins here), a coot with its chicks and what may be a marsh marigold, which accoring to wikipedia is one of britain's ancient plants. Never let it be said that Kings Cross is a concrete urban wilderness. Keep the springwatch pics coming to [email protected].
Tony Rees is an avid observer of local birds on the Cally Road - reporting flocks of goldfinch along the canal after the harsh winter. Here's Tony's an action shot of a fast moving long tailed tit no mean feat on a cloudy day. And Clare Hill has supplied the lovely sprig of blossom below. Keep the pics coming in folks email to [email protected]
You may recall the unit at 2 York Way turned into a kebab shop and applied for an open shop front, late night trading (after 23:00) and an illuminated facia sign. This was application was rejected, but then they appealled the Council's decision (Click for earlier story).
They are tenants of Regent Quarter but unfortunately despite our concern that this was not a suitable business for a regeneration development, our freeholder's managing agents offered no support. However, many were not happy about this, so a number of local residents tackled the problem via the council route and the unit's planning application was refused. Download 2B York Way Appeal Decision
The leaseholders appealed and I can confirm that the appeal was also rejected. Please see attached if you would like to see the detail of the appeal rejection!
Thanks to Paul Convery - our local councillor - for his continued support.

This is another example of residents working together to make their neighbourhood confirm to their wishes! It can be done!
I received the following email from the Council about what residents think about a "controlled drinking zone" being set up across the Borough. I thought the readers of the Bulletin Board who might not be in Islington's mailing list might want to respond, so I've posted it here. The link below will take you to the short questionnaire.
Dear Sir/Madam
We would like to know what local residents think of the proposal to have a controlled drinking zone (CDZ), also known as a Designated Public Place Order, across Islington.
The CDZ would enable the police to stop people drinking alcohol in public places, where they are causing, or likely to cause a nuisance or annoyance to other people. The Order would not ban drinking in public places but it would give the police additional powers to deal with anti-social behaviour associated with drinking.

Some of you have told me you are snapping away - pls send in your pics. Thanks also to Margaret Baum who think this tree on the cally next to the pool might be a damson - has anyone noticed it fruiting?
